B.M. in Musical Studies

There are two tracks within the Musical Studies major: Composition and Music Theory/ History.

Music Theory/History
The Musical Studies – Music Theory/History degree allows students to focus on the scholarly study of music. Students can focus on any of the three main branches of music scholarship, historical, comparative (ethnomusicology), or systematic (theory and analysis), but frequently these areas overlap.Through the breadth and depth gained as a result of undergraduate research, students are better prepared to apply to graduate schools, become effective music educators, or pursue an advanced performance degree.As a capstone experience, students pursue their own research of a topic of choice with a faculty advisor.Musical Studies majors may pursue a variety of careers, including working in higher education, librarianship, publishing or music criticism.
