A faculty member at SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music has been nominated for two GRAMMY Awards, along with the other members of the innovative string orchestra, A Far Cry. A Far Cry’s latest album, “Visions and Variations,” was nominated for two awards in the 61st annual GRAMMYs, in the categories for best chamber music/small ensemble performance, and best engineered album, classical.

SUNY Potsdam Campus Food Pantry Now Partnering with Food Bank of Central New York

SUNY Potsdam’s Campus Food Pantry has been accepted as a partner agency by the Food Bank of Central New York, which distributes food to individuals and families in need by partnering with local agencies across 11 counties. Now in operation for nearly 13 years, the SUNY Potsdam Campus Food Pantry is supported by the Department of Public Health and Human Performance. Students who are experiencing food insecurity are welcome to stop by and take what they need from its office in Dunn Hall.

SECURE Act and Charitable Giving

On December 20, 2019, the Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement (SECURE) Act was signed into law. The provisions of the law took effect on January 1, 2020.For individuals who turn 70½ after December 31, 2019, the Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) age of 70½ is increased to age 72. Those who reached age 70½ on or before December 31, 2019 must start their RMDs. But while the age to begin RMDs has increased to 72, the minimum age to begin making qualified charitable distributions (QCD)* remains at 70½ for everyone.
