I have been working in the helping professions since 2002 when I first began teaching and guiding in an adventure therapy program for at-risk youth. Since then, various experiences in residential treatment programs, inpatient chemical dependency, as well as private practice have allowed me to continue to learn treatment methods which help clients achieve their goals. Entering my fourteenth year with SUNY Potsdam's Counseling Center, I enjoy combining cognitive behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, as well as a good dose of humor in my work with clients. While psychotherapy is serious business, I believe it doesn't have to be somber. I'm a big proponent of self-care for all of my clients. I do my best to practice this myself in the form of rock and ice climbing, trail running, gardening and spending time with my family. If you are feeling challenged with any number of issues, don't hesitate to reach out to see what we can do together to help you become the best possible version of yourself. More Info |

Hi! My name is Tanya Dow, and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of NY. I have worked with college students for most of my professional career and have worked at SUNY Potsdam for the past 15 years. I enjoy supporting students in their efforts to become happier, more fulfilled and more comfortable with their sense of self as they navigate this transitional time in life. I live in Potsdam with my husband and teenage daughter and have two stepchildren who are off working and living on their own. Home is my happy place, and I enjoy weekend projects involving building, remodeling, yard work and other creative endeavors. I also make time for myself to run, workout and find and time to relax, preferably outdoors in the sunshine whenever possible. I look forward to meeting you! More Info |

I graduated from SUNY Cortland with a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology in 2010 and a Master's in Social Work degree from Syracuse University in 2012. I became a licensed master social worker in the State of New York in 2013. Following this I completed over 2,000 hours of direct client care as a psychiatric social worker for the St. Lawrence County Community Services Mental Health Clinic and the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center Gouverneur Wellness Center. During this time, I obtained experience as a child and adult therapist in both individual and group settings. In 2017, I joined the SUNY Potsdam Counseling Center. I became a licensed clinical social worker in 2019 after completing required clinical hours and passing the New York State clinical licensing exam. In addition to providing direct clinical treatment for SUNY Potsdam students, I also am the Peer Counselor training director. I have specific interest in grief, obsessive-compulsive disorder, trauma and personal growth and wellness. I was raised in the local Potsdam area for most of my life until beginning my college career. After living in Westchester County for a year after graduate school, it was important for me to return to the local area to provide quality mental health support to this community. More Info |

I started at SUNY Potsdam in January 2001 as a Resident Director. I then worked as a TRiO counselor for a year and a half, unknowingly replacing Christina and later being replaced by Tanya, both amazing therapists now on in the Counseling Center! I've been in the Counseling Center since 2005 and been director since 2010. I started the Peer Counseling program in January 2004 while at TRiO, with a handful of students who trusted the wild idea. I am proud to see it still going all these years later. I have a BS in Mathematics from SUNY Brockport and a Masters in Counselor Education, also from Brockport. I have a PhD (abd) from Syracuse University in Counseling Supervision. I hail from a tiny northern Maine farm town where we took 2 weeks off from school in September while every kid picked potatoes. I now live in the area with my husband and 3 amazing kids as a hockey/soccer/baseball/softball mom. My areas of specialty are chronic illness and grief. I enjoy working with groups of students to discuss issues around diversity and training our campus about mental health issues. More Info |

I am currently in my 15th year proudly serving the SUNY community. After a brief stint with SUNY Canton in the Admissions Office, I took on a position in the Public Relations Department. While in that role, I worked closely with the director of public relations on a variety of projects that promoted the institution, including being the direct liaison on a national presidential search. Eager to work more closely with the student body, I joined the counseling department here at SUNY Potsdam in 2018. As the first point of contact for our students in need, I am grateful for the opportunity to gently and compassionately help them find their way to one of our incredible counselors. When not in the office, I enjoy singing, traveling, spending time on and by the water and relaxing with my family. More Info |

I'm a Potsdam local who graduated with a B.A. in Psychology from SUNY Potsdam before moving on to earn my Master's in Social Work at CUA. As a graduate student, I completed an internship at the SUNY Potsdam Counseling Center. I enjoyed my time working with the students and staff here so much that after graduating with my MSW, I began working here. I began practicing as a Licensed Master Social Worker in August 2019 and plan to continue toward further licensure in the future. I am interested in and continue to learn more about trauma-based therapies. In my free time, I enjoy movies, reading, baking, and hiking. You'll often see me accompanied by my golden retriever, Richard, who also shares my interest in helping others. More Info |

I received a Bachelor's in psychology from SUNY Potsdam in 1996 and a Master's in counseling with a Student Affairs emphasis from SUNY Plattsburgh in 1998. I have been working in counseling related fields for my entire 22 year career, including the St. Lawrence County Mental Health Clinic, Hospice of the St. Lawrence Valley, SUNY Potsdam TRiO Counselor and the SUNY Canton Counseling Center. I love my job and feel incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to work with SUNY Potsdam students. The amazing energy and diversity regarding life experience and perspective is truly inspiring. The opportunity to build meaningful, therapeutic relationships has made counseling an incredibly fulfilling profession, for which I am extremely grateful. I enjoy spending time with my family, friends and pets, reading, gardening, various crafts and working on my home. More Info |
