What's New

  • The One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OB3 or OBBBA) was signed into law on July 4, 2025, through the budget reconciliation process. This legislation contains significant provisions that reshape federal student financial aid. The changes are in effect for the 2026–2027 academic year. The new legislation has impacts on Federal Direct Student Loan annual and aggregate borrowing limits for both undergraduate and graduate students, changes to annual and aggregate limits for Parent PLUS loan, the elimination of the Federal Graduate PLUS loan, a shift to two new repayment plans for all loan borrowers, and changes to Federal Pell Grant eligibility when receiving other financial aid assistance over the cost of attendance, changes to assets in Pell eligibility, and the inclusion of foreign income in Pell determination. You may review further information on these changes at the following links: Undergraduate Student loans, Graduate Student loans, Plus Loans, Pell. In response to loan changes, we also updated our private loan information for students as more students may need to utilize this funding to cover their expenses.

  • Parent Loan: Are you a parent applying for a 2026-2027 Federal Direct Parent Loan? The Parent Loan is expected to open on April 1.

  • Students from mixed status families are now eligible to apply for NYS financial aid without completing the FAFSA. Students may also reach out to finaid@potsdam.edu to learn more about their options to apply for NYS aid.
